How to Get to PortAventura from Tarragona
PortAventura sits just 13 km from Tarragona, in Salou and Vila-seca. Take the Renfe train to PortAventura station or drive the AP-7: full guide.
Getting to PortAventura from Tarragona could not be easier: the park lies barely 13 km away, spread across the towns of Salou and Vila-seca within the province of Tarragona itself. By car it is about 15 minutes, and by train there is a station within walking distance of the gates. Here are the real options and how to pair the park with a city visit.
Where PortAventura is
PortAventura World occupies land in both Salou and Vila-seca, just south of Tarragona city. The resort includes the PortAventura Park theme park, the Caribe Aquatic Park water park and the Ferrari Land area. Thanks to how close it is, many families choose to stay in Tarragona and visit the park for a day or two without changing base.
By train (Renfe / Rodalies)
The easiest car-free option is the train. Salou-PortAventura station sits on the R17 Rodalies de Catalunya line, around 950 metres from the park entrance, a 15-20 minute walk (or a shuttle in high season). Tarragona is a stop on the same line, so the direct ride is short, just a few minutes. Check up-to-date timetables and fares on the Renfe/Rodalies website before you set off, as they vary by season.
Note: the high-speed Camp de Tarragona (AVE) station does not reach the park directly; if you arrive by AVE you will need to connect with local transport.
By car on the AP-7 / A-7
By car, access is via the AP-7 motorway or the A-7 dual carriageway, with signposted exits towards Salou and PortAventura. From central Tarragona it is roughly 15 minutes depending on traffic. The resort has large paid car parks. This is the best option if you are travelling with kids, strollers or want flexible arrival and departure times.
Looking for accommodation in Tarragona? Sleeping in the city and visiting PortAventura as a day trip gives you the best of both worlds: Roman heritage and a theme park. Booking.com.
Combine it with Tarragona
Do not spend the whole trip at the park: Tarragona holds the archaeological ensemble of Tarraco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. The seaside Roman amphitheatre, the circus, the walls and the Archaeological Promenade can be seen in half a day. Visit in May and you will catch Tarraco Viva, the Roman reenactment festival, and in mid-September Santa Tecla, the great main festival with castells (human towers, declared UNESCO Intangible Heritage in 2010).
A planning tip
One formula works very well: a full day at PortAventura and another for the old town, the cathedral and Tarragona's beaches. Buy your park ticket online in advance, and in summer arrive early to beat the queues at the most popular rides. We do not publish ticket prices because they change by date; always check them on the park's official website.
Keep planning
